Peruvian History
Peru was once known as the Inca Empire, but before this empire there were a diversity of cultures and organized villages. Though, the Incan empire began in the village of Cuzco and from there they grew by defeating and conquering other tribes. The Inca Empire grew to be one of the largest empires, it was about 2,500 miles long and 500 miles wide and located in the Andes Mountains. They were a strong empire with a good central government and army. In addition they cared for their people and would distribute their stored food to those in need in times of drought. Not only that but they had different profession such as musicians who created new instruments and they had weavers and etc. However this successful empire eventually fell to the power of the Spanish. The Spanish conquered their civilization in 1531-1533 by Francisco Pizarro. Though it wasn’t until 1821 when Peru at last gained their independence from the Spanish. After 20 decades of dictatorship, José Luis Bustamente y Rivero became president of Peru in 1945 in a free election. In 2011, Ollanta Humala was elected president and has promised to help poorer Peruvians saying that the government will play a bigger role financially.
